What makes a logo work
- Start with the name. People remember a name they can read. Pick the typeface first, then see whether you need a mark at all.
- Keep the mark simple. It has to work at the size of a browser tab as well as on a sign. One idea, one shape.
- Use one or two colours. A logo that needs many colours is hard to print and hard to remember.
- Check it on dark and light. This page shows both, because your logo will end up on both.
- Look at it small. If the favicon and the app icon preview still read clearly, the design is strong enough.
Which file to use where
- SVG for websites and printers. It is a vector, so it stays sharp at any size.
- PNG where a vector is not accepted, such as social profiles and email signatures. The background is transparent.
- Favicon for the browser tab. The ZIP includes one, and Make favicon opens your icon in the favicon generator.
Questions
Is the logo maker free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and nothing to pay. You can download as many versions as you like.
Can I use the logo commercially?
Yes. The icons come from Phosphor Icons under the MIT licence and the fonts are under the SIL Open Font License, and both allow commercial use. Other people can use the same icons and fonts, so a logo made here may not be unique and may be harder to register as a trademark. Check that nobody else is using something similar before you print or register it. Almulx does not check trademarks.
Do I need the font installed to use the SVG?
No. Letters are converted to shapes when the logo is drawn, so the SVG looks the same on every device and printers do not need the font.
Is what I type uploaded?
No. The logo is drawn in your browser, and your name and design are not sent to Almulx. Your last design is remembered in this browser only, so you can come back to it on the same device.
Which alphabets work?
Latin alphabets, including Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese and other accented letters. Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese and other scripts are not supported yet, and the page tells you when a letter is missing.
