How to choose a good domain name
- Keep it short. Under 15 letters is easier to type, say on the phone and fit on a sign.
- Make it easy to spell. If you have to spell it out loud, people will get it wrong. Avoid double letters across words (bestteam) and unusual spellings.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers unless they are part of your name. "Is that the number or the word?" costs you visitors.
- Say what you do or where you are. A word for your trade or your town helps people remember you and know what they will find.
- Prefer .com when you can. People type it by habit. If all your customers are in one country, its own ending (.co.uk, .de, .com.br) is a good choice too.
- Check the renewal price, not only the first year. Some endings are cheap to register and expensive every year after.
- Check trademarks. Do not use a well-known brand in your name, even with a word added.
Questions
Is the domain name generator free?
Yes. You can generate ideas and check availability without an account. You only pay if you decide to register a name.
Are the prices real?
Yes. Availability and the yearly price come from the registrar at the moment you check. If a name costs more to renew than in its first year, the renewal price is shown too.
Should I choose .com?
If the .com is free and affordable, it is usually the safest choice because people type it by habit. A country ending such as .co.uk or .de can be better when all your customers are in one country.
Do I get a website with the domain?
No. A domain is only the name. A website needs hosting as well (the difference, explained). On Almulx a hosting plan includes a setup wizard that builds a WordPress website from your answers, and longer plans include a standard domain free for the first year.
